Water themed mixtape with For the Rabbits

We were asked by the lovely people at For the Rabbits what songs we love – turns out we love a lot of songs that are themed by water, rivers and the ocean.

Also how beautiful is this photo of us by Ebony Lamb?! A very talented lady ❤ ❤ ❤

We’re playing with Ben Salter, at Meow, 28th September

We’re very excited about playing with Ben Salter next Thursday night (28th of September) at Meow in full trio form! Ben’s a lovely guy, like probably nicer than your Mum, and one of Australia’s best songwriters. So we would implore you to see him while he’s still charging pocket change

Salter has collaborated, written and performed with artists as diverse as Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything), Tim Rogers (You Am I, The Temperance Union), Bernard Fanning (Powderfinger), Gareth Liddiard (The Drones) and Marlon Williams, to name a few. He has toured with acts including Cat Power, J Mascis, Gareth Liddiard, Counting Crows, Marlon Williams and most recently Built To Spill.

Since the release of The Cat, Salter has toured relentlessly both across Australia, throughout Europe, and most recently to Japan and New Zealand.

Plus, we’ll be there performing a daring, but utterly respectable opening set!

13th Floor & Home Alone compilation

After a delightful 7hr drive from Foxton to Auckland in the rain and snow we sat down with a surprisingly tall Marty Duda to talk about Set Free. Thanks The 13th Floor for the warm tea and the good times!

We’re delighted that our song ‘Been In Bed’ has been included in the latest Home Alone Music compilation, S P R I N G, which also features some of our very most favourite NZ bands!!
‘Been in Bed’, controversially, is Penelope’s favourite song we play and is a song we went to the trouble of tuning the guitar down half a step to record just to get that sleepy vibe.
But really it’s time to wake up, because it’s S P R I N G!

#13 in the NZ Album Charts, a flattering review & a live performance on Radio1

Oooweee! Grawlixes are #13 in the NZ Album Charts – 1 up from last week! Thanks so much for all the support! *Feeling the love* 💗💖💞

Thanks Peter-James Dreis from Music.net.nz for the flattering review! A compelling argument to buy our album

“I want the world to hear you, Grawlixes. Because behind your melancholy, there is a sense or happiness. Or relief. Or closure. Or some unnamed feeling I live to push down deep…Get out there. Keep going. Tour more, or sell-out (I know, a dirty word). Get your songs on TV ads…I’d say get your cinematic, emotion laden songs into movies, because your songs are too good to be hoarded in the minds of the Indie Kids alone. But by the same token, your music shouldn’t be relegated to background noise…But the full enjoyment of your music, not just of your vocal licks, needs attention, a dedicated listening session in a bean bag by a window, in a world where I have time to indulge is such pleasures. You don’t get that jay-walking or avoiding bicycles. If it wasn’t for this social anxiety I’ve often misinterpreted as misanthropy, I’d love to come and see you live…And Grawlixes aren’t *%#$.

We also played a delightful afternoon performance on Radio One 91FM a couple weeks ago. Thanks Radio One & Steven John Marr – Audio Engineer/Producer!

Grawlixes Triumphantly Return to Daily Slog

We’re back in Wellington now, earning money to pay for decadent band-related expenses such as new wiper blades and a reliable guitar tuner. In other highly readable news, When You Motor Away feature our album of their blog today!

In other great news, Toby Blakey saw Grawlixes play at the Common Room in Hastings on Sunday night, then gave us a flattering review of our live performance. Thanks Toby!!
