We are extremely pleased to announce the release of the first single off our album, Set Free. The video includes footage Penelope shot at a wedding in Switzerland during our European tour, and scenes from our spiritual home in Dunedin. It’s a very exciting time in the world of Grawlixes. We have just signed to Home Alone Music and plan to release our debut album in February. Tour dates in January and February to come soon. Hooray!!

In other news, we have two shows this week. The first on Saturday (19.11.16) at Meow in Wellington with Avec Spirale, who have just released their debut album. And another on Sunday (20.11.16) at Moon with Nick Knox and Nicole Andrews.

So our album is finally done. Hooray!! We’re hoping to release little tidbits for you in the coming months. In the meantime, here are some photos of beautiful Dunedin AND a photo of the amazing mixing and mastering genius, Tex Houston.

Here are some photos of our trip to Iceland. We went there to play as part of the excellent New Zealand band French for Rabbits at the Iceland Airwaves Festival. As a result, we also got to see some amazing International bands, such as Ariel Pink, Beach House, Battles, John Grant and Norwegian newcomer Aurora (to name but a few – see photos below). We also saw some great architecture, statues, graffiti, trees, waterfalls, landscapes and tiny Icelandic horses. There were even rock pools that people throw money into, making the water glisten in an aesthetically appealing way. Our host had an excellent dog called Mafia, who would wake us up most mornings and hang out. The sulphur in the water changed my ring from silver to gold (it has since returned to silver after a week using different water). In other Icelandic events, I cut my bass playing finger so badly, the knife went through my nail. Much to the disappointment of the band and presumably the audience, my cut didn’t cause me to bleed over the stage or the audience during performances. Iceland is a wondrous place. Breathtaking in many ways.

Pirmasens was deliciously foggy with amazing statues – which made for great photos.

We played a show in Croatia, but to get there we had to go through Slovenia. The highlights were the Marche/Hip Hop food stops off the motorway (so many choices and delights), and the Star Trek sound desk at the Croatia venue. Croatia also has lots of incredible buildings and amazing mannequins. Slovenia has great huts where they store wood and a lot of trees! I also took a photo of myself in a mirror ball, because it was on the ground back stage and why not.

We played in Switzerland at a beautiful wedding (as French for Rabbits) and at a house concert (as Grawlixes). Here is a mixture of photographs from one of my favourite places so far. We got a flat tyre just before the wedding, but our amazing hosts not only helped us fit the spare tyre, but they also sourced a replacement for us. Amazing people! There was an Alphorn player at the wedding too, a sacrificial burning of a miniature wooden statue and they even released lanterns into the night sky. It was a truly wonderful day. The laughing dude on the bottom left hand corner is a toilet paper holder at the house concert we played at – the Swiss have it all!
